In early 2011, a worsening drought led to wide-scale hunger throughout the Horn of Africa. Families watched as their crops dried up and their livestock died. Children and adults suffered from malnourishment, and many had to leave their homes to find food. Caritas' worldwide network mobilized to prevent deaths and feed the hungry.
About the photo:
In Kenya, Caritas used demonstration plots to show vegetable farmers how to get better harvests. A Caritas Slovakia programme also provided hundreds of people with drought tolerant seeds for millet, sorghum, sweet potatoes and other indigenous vegetables.
